Courtney Carter earned her B.A. from Truman State University in 2004, and her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2015. Her research interests address the ongoing construction of race through ideologies and practices. At present, her work explores the racialization of organizations with attention to the ways in which organizational norms, values, and practices are structured by race. This is the focus of her current research, which examines the impact of an HBCU's diversity efforts on the meaning and significance of race for the university. She is a research affiliate with the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Minority Serving Institutions, and a Diversity Network Scholar with the University of Michigan's National Center for Institutional Diversity.
