Professor Patrick completed her undergraduate education at Rust College, and earned the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Public Policy and Administration at Mississippi State University. Her published works have appeared in edited books and scholarly journals. She is currently working on African Americans in education, as well as performance measures in the no child left behind program. Professor Patrick teaches about African Americans in politics.
